Next thing you know it will be 4th of July next week! Mom always told me the older you get the faster the time goes...I hate to admit it but she was right. It seems like it was winter just a few days ago and already yesterday it was 93 degrees! I sure hope this summer is not as extreme as winter was...I might melt into a puddle before it's over!

Well, on to something new! I have been doing some swaps on swapbot.com and have been working on some new things. This is a Cookie Cutter Curiosity which I never heard of before. It's my contribution to my partner and I hope she likes it. I've had a bunch of vintage cookie cutters that I've never used (I am a packrat you know) and this is one that I just could not figure out. What in the world is it? It IS a cookie cutter, though, so it's fair game to be altered. I love the little birdie and how her tail fits in the unnamed creature's head and I added a little nesting material for her along with a stick. She might need it to beat off any other birds that want her nest.

I have a few more cookie cutters but I don't think I can part with them so now I'm on the lookout for new ones that I like. I'm also on the lookout for some spoons. YUP...spoons that I can alter for a swap! That's a new one for me too but I can't wait to try. All these things are just screaming Christmas to me now. That scares me because it's waaaaay beyond July 4th and I'm the one that wants to slow things down.

Before I go, I thought I would share a few swaps I received this week. This first one was a Just Pink Card and all that was required was two pink cards. As you can see, she went over the top. I love everything, but especially the hand dyed seam binding (my favorite go to ribbon right now) and the little flower.

This is for a Handmade Bookmark swap and all that was required was one item. What I especially liked was the use of buttons on the dangley thingeys. Since I'm a button collector I was tickled!

I've never hosted a swap before...this was my first and it was for Vintage Photo Postcards. I had an ulterior motive, I wanted to increase my vintage photo stash. *sneaky smile* I love the little girl and I want to know what that lady is saying to that little piggy! The one on the left is a very nice card but my photographic abilities didn't do it justice at all. Sorry! It's a solder sitting on a horse, probably a Calvary soldier from WWI.
It's not bad enough that I'm not a great picture taker, but when it comes to blogging I am so out in the potato patch! I guess the only way I will conquer it is to just keep plugging away so look out world, here I come a pluggin' away!

I'll be posting some photos of our town's Memorial Day Parade...they go all out every year. Lots of fun to get together and catch up with neighbors that we don't have much contact with during the year. Hope everyone has a wonderful SAFE and happy Memorial Day weekend. It's at the bottom of this post. If you would leave a comment, you will be added for a drawing on Memorial Day, May 30th. Hope you like my little offering.

This is an altered tin I did some time ago and just never completed. It's an old Band Aid tin covered with scrapbook paper and vintage lace. This is the back of the tin. I ALWAYS get my photos out of order and, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to change that. *pout*
I haven't been this productive in quite awhile. I don't know where the ambition is coming from but I don't want to question it! Here are a few things accumulating on my table.

This is a journal made from a black and white composition book, which is what most of my journals are. I used a vintage page along with a vintage reproduction of the lady sewing. I've also used vintage scrabble tiles and music. The ribbon, buttons and "Treasure" frame are new but fit right in with the look.

This little cutie was made from another composition book. The flower is from a vintage book about flowers that I got at my local thrift store and has not been aged at all. The coloring is natural. The entire journal is covered with vintage wallpaper in a soft blue color. The printed page is vintage but everything else is new as well as the seam binding. Boy am I ever loving that stuff! It just hangs so nicely and I don't even want to use my regular ribbon much anymore.
This is a smaller hardback journal that is decorated with all vintage things except the flowers and heart. It's hard to see, but the frame is covered in lace. I'm not a very good journal keeper but I really want this one. But.......since I'm NOT a journal keeper it will go to either Etsy or ebay, not sure which yet.
My 87 year old Mom will just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this cake! She has been on a perpetual diet for as long as I can remember and this one is calorie free! I'm going to use it to put her Mother's Day gift in. I love the lid...it's all glittery. The box itself is covered in rose wrapping paper that just happened to match the flowers I had for the lid.
I finally rounded up all my vintage paper scraps and decorated a heart shape cut from a piece of scrap foam core board I've had laying around for ages. Then I dipped in my stash of "stuff" to decorate it. The scroll stamp is from Tim Holtz and is heat embossed with black. The other scrolly decorations are self adhesive thingeys that I colored with alcohol ink and embossed the top edge with black once again. "Once upon a time" was another self adhesive embellishment I've had along with the key and key lock brads. The pearly thing is a pin from the junk bin at a local thrift store that I pulled the back off of and glued with the feathers. The two round things near the point are typewriter keys I cut from paper and added crystal accents to give it some dimension. The tassel is bits of chain from from a cheap necklace from the dollar store that I wired on with a pearl bead. I edged it with ribboon to cover and keep the paper edges flat.

I've spent the last couple of afternoons upstairs crafting on my two new tables and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them! I have so much room to spread out now. I actually have room to work...imagine that! Here are a couple of projects I completed and am hoping to post in my Etsy store.

I'm loving my two giant hole punches and am probably using them on way too many things right now. They are so fun though! I, also, got the hang of making ruffles...what fun!
I've been embossing my tags too. I have a swirls and a dots die that I use. Now I'm on the prowl for another kind. Oh, I have music notes too.
These are two that I did quite sometime ago but am finally ready to part with. They have bits of tulle and lace from a vintage wedding gown I found at a local thrift store.

Guess I'll head out to try and figure out how to list my first items on Etsy. I look across the street to my two neighbors and actually see white stuff! OOPS! It's only the white risers on their porch steps. PHEW! That's a relief. I am so ready for Spring this year. I hope everyone else is having great weather. On 11/27 my little doxie friend started going up our steps kind of slow. We went to bed and she cuddled as usual...nothing unusual. She is our furry hot water bottle. Hubby gets up for work at 5:00 AM and since he can pour his own cereal, I stay tucked in the covers with Sweetie. When I woke up to start my day, Sweetie was very quiet. No barking, no "come on Mom, get up I'm hungry!" We have a ramp at the foot of our bed for her and when she started toward it, her hind end just drug...NOTHING! Then I noticed a little puddle and small turd which she NEVER does. I let her move around a bit more and couldn't believe my eyes...she was paralyzed! The first thing in my mind is we're going to have to put her down because we just could not financially handle that kind of surgery bill and we could not let her suffer so much. My heart broke and I couldn't stop crying. She has been the little heartbeat at my feet for 10 years.

Called hubby at work and we got her to the Vet. She seemed to think that we would not have to put her to sleep and she gave us some meds to help with swelling, pain and to protect her stomach. We were to keep her quiet and bring her back in a week. When the Vet was checking her, I just couldn't bear to watch Sweetie and hubby was not much better. We have had five dogs since we've been married (40 yrs.) and loved every single one of them but Sweetie was his absolute favorite. We went home defeated and depressed. We got out an old laundry basket, filled it with soft towels and placed her in. She didn't fight at all which, in itself is unusual for her. For two days I just sat there and kept her close to my feet or held her next to me. I couldn't leave her. Hubby was the same when he got home from work.

I had to get away for a bit so I went on the computer and did some research and stumbled upon dodgerslist.com which is a site for for dogs with Sweetie's problem...a ruptured disc. WOW!! The information was wonderful! While reading through everything I found that they also have a Yahoo group which I promptly joined. They are all owners of IVDD (Intervertrebral Degenerative Disc Disease) dogs and totally understood what I was going through! They were so helpful and so encouraging that I felt a glimmer of hope return. I learned that there are two kinds of treatment...surgery and Conservative. We just couldn't manage the surgery so it was going to have to be Conservative for us. What encouraged me were all the success stories from Doxies with this treatment. Now we were looking at 8 weeks of crate rest.

Off to Petco for a crate. It looked like an endless amount of time but we HAD to do it. Once the pain subsided, she was having none of that crate! If we had to go out, she would carry on terrible screaming, chewing at the sides, barking and anything she could do to make us feel guilty. It worked! We felt terrible every time we set foot outside. I now think a lot of it was she just didn't want to be alone. I guess she was scared too. We have finally come to the end of that time and I was able to let her loose. SHE FLEW! Doxies really do fly! She was still dragging an anchor but she moved so fast and was so happy to be set free!

Through Dodger's List I found out about Eddie's Wheels...wheelchairs for dogs. There are loads of videos on Youtube of doxies in their wheelchairs. These apparatuses are custom made for your dog so we measured and sent for a set. They arrived, we put Sweetie in and she hasn't been the same since!

She is now able to support herself and even has a little hop in her step. She still looks like she's been on a week long bender but she's getting around! When she tries to run in the house her hind end gets ahead of the front end and she will sometimes stop and look at it like "What do you think you're doing there?" Then she takes off again. When she's in her wheels, she just prances and is so happy. When hubby gets home she is relentless! She sits right in front of him barking and looking back and forth from her scooter to him..."Come on Dad, lets go!" I never thought I would see her run again. I just LOVE to watch her now and she has brought laughter and joy back into our home again. They say it can take up to a year to recover with IVDD. I don't know how much better she will get but I'm thrilled so far!

I am somewhat handicapped and Sweetie is such an inspiration to me! Everyday is a joy for her and I'm so glad God didn't take her from us. We lost two of our other dogs in 2010 from different reasons and I just could not face another loss like that. Now we have her back!

I know this was long but I wanted to write it for myself mostly. Thanks to all who read it and I hope you are as encouraged as me. Now I'm off to cuddle with my furry hot water bottle. Talk to y'all soon! This is my Valentine Cookie Tree for hubby which he loved. It has little pink and red hearts in the cookies and I hung them with red and white Baker's Twine on a few Forsythia branches that I absconded with. I sandwiched two together with a bit of icing so the hearts would be nice on each side, plus the icing is yummy. I did a bit of recycling too. The tin is from a giant can of pizza sauce that I covered in repurposed corrugated cardboard paper then decorated with hearts on all sides. He loved it!

Here is the card I made for him with more of the same corrugated paper. Is anyone out there as inconsistent as me? Not just inconsistent, but a major procrastinator in all areas of my life! I've been saying for ever so long that I'm gonna organize my craft studio. Have I done it? NO-OT! I am trying though but I just can't seem to part with ANYTHING. You did see that my ID is foreverpackrat! That's me! At least I've straightened up a bit and here's a few photos to prove it. I'm actually beginning to organize my paper but I still have a bunch of stashes all over the room. Ainyhow, here are a few of the completed journals.

This is how they all are finished inside.

I know I posted a photo of this one already but this is a better shot.
You still can't see the glitter but it really is there.

I think this is my favorite. I recently got a book about embellishments and it mentioned using a typewriter on vintage page margins and since I love vintage looking stuff, I had to have one! I've used the computer up until now but I waste quite a bit of paper, plus I have to ink and age it for it to look old. Why not just start with old paper and be done with it. I spotted this little cutie and only had to pay $4.99! Yep, that's right! I couldn't believe the price. It also helps that I LOVE the color and size and portability. I was even able to get a new ribbon on line...with correction tape on it. LOL Cool beans!!

I'm sitting here grinning like an idiot! I actually got my tush upstairs and worked on some journals! How often do I say I'm gonna do something and then just procrastinate??? Of course, I AM the Grand Poobah of Procrastinators Anonymous so what do you expect? Anyhow, here's what I accomplished. This first one has German glass glitter that you really can't see on all the pink areas. The ribbons on the right are to tie it closed with a pretty bow. The photo is kind of washed out but that is due to my poor photographic abilities.

This is my stack of waiting journals. I am finding it hard reconciling the fact that they are for sale and they're not even finished yet. I love the paper and how it feels in my hands and, when that happens, I find it hard to part with things. Do any of you have that problem? I really don't even keep a journal but I love the books.

The one on top here is my favorite.

Well, off now to accomplish more while I prowl the area for more vintage wallpaper. Slight understatement! A lot has happened in my life since then. A few major things are that I had open heart surgery, I have a new granddaughter and another grandchild on the way VERY soon. I can't wait to meet #4! One of my sons is now living in Florida and another is living in a new house. And.......life goes on.

Since my surgery in February 2010, I haven't done much crafting and I sorely miss it! It's what kept me reasonably sane. I've gotten a lot of inspiration from a blog named "Creative Chaos" and I have been trekking up to my third floor "studio" to do some creating. I have been working on a stack of vintage wallpapered journals that I would like to sell before Christmas. I'll be posting some photos tomorrow. Right now they are works in progress but I'm loving it. If I can muster up enough ambition, I might actually list a couple in my empty and dusty Etsy shop that has never been used. Boy would that ever be an accomplishment!!!

Another thing I HAVE to work on is cleaning up and organizing my studio so I can work up there. It really is Packrat's Nest up there! Hubby got me a little fridge last year, Mom donated a small microwave, #2 son left a T.V. for me, there is a coffee maker and most importantly.....a 1/2 bath! What is my problem?! I'm afraid if I start going up there on a regular basis, I won't want to come downstairs to the real world. I desperately need more workspace and #3 son has volunteered to make a work table for me. My neighbor across the street (she's a major scrapbooker!) came up to take a gander and loved it mess and all. Only thing she said was to add a "big ass table" right in the middle of the room and get going. That's what I'm gonna do! I'll start with a 4' by 8' piece of MDF and go from there.

Well, I guess it's time to roll my tired bones to bed. I'm actually looking forward to getting moving in the AM. Hey wait...it already is the AM. 2:45 to be exact. Guess I need to rethink that. Oh well, I really am off to bed!Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-42855133180072835552008-05-31T08:44:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:25:22.133-07:00SHEESH! I received a RAK from Shelly over at Paper Patch Crafts...it was a bag of empty ribbon spools. Next I paper both circle pieces on both sides and when finished, I held them together and punched a hole through both with my Crop-a-Dial, allowing room for the hole to be inside the ring. I papered the ring and once again sanded then glued to one of the circles. I cut circles from card stock allowing 1/4" around them so they come out easily when everything is put together. Embellish however you like and then put all together with the loose leaf ring and add ribbon if you wish. I added two tails of thin ribbon to the bottom of the circle pieces so I can tie it closed. I guess it's finally here to stay! Yesterday morning I was sitting in my craft studio with the window open, a soft breeze and the chirps of the birds drifting in while I enjoyed my daily Hazelnut Coffee. So peaceful!! I love my children dearly, but this was one of the occasions when I appreciated their being grown up. I didn't have to rush anywhere or do anything in particular other than just enjoy the weather.....and it was GLORIOUS! I hope everyone else's days are becoming just as enjoyable.

Just a note before I get to the crafts: With a little tutoring, I'm actually getting my act together and this is starting to look like a blog that was done by an adult rather than a Kindergartener! Thank you Lynda and Wendy!

This was a layout I did for a challenge/contest on Paper Patch Crafts with a fixed design sketch for National Scrapbooking Day this past Sunday. The owner of this store, Anne, had contests going on all day. I really pooped out on all the others but I won this one. My prize is a large stack of paper and, as y'all know, you can NEVER have too much of that wonderful item. The letters were done on my Cricut Expression and stickled with dots just to bring out the color a bit more. The flowers are Primas with micro beads and a little touch of fine glitter for the centers. The swirls are Fancy Pants stamped in gold and then copper on top of that. This is a whole different style than I've ever done before and I'm having fun with it.

This second layout, "My Three Sons", is all Cosmo Cricket paper and now I'm in LOVE with their whole line. The lettering was done on my Expression and the swirls are Fancy Pants with some brown glitter on some of the swirl parts to highlight them. The journaling was done on the computer on a transparency then attached with eyelets. Never tried that before but will be doing it more often since I'm not crazy about my handwriting anymore. The centers of the flowers are brown buttons from my large stash. I love to distress and age my works but this didn't need it at all because of the style of the paper...was already done for me. This was a specific layout design that I tried to stick to pretty close. I haven't shown it to my sons yet but I'm hoping they will like it. I can't believe they're so grown up!

Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-90968681250507837142008-05-02T20:07:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:20:49.759-07:00It's been a looooong time again! I am so sporadic with this journaling thing but I really am gonna try to do better.

Lately I've been working on adding texture to my work on canvas. I've discovered Gesso and Punchinella (sequin scrap). This collage was my first attempt and it came out pretty good. I started with a really cheap stretched canvas and gave it a good coat with the Gesso. Boy did I ever make a mess of myself and that stuff is a brute to get off! First lesson learned: BE AS NEAT AS POSSIBLE! I had a piece of large open weave stuff that I laid on the wet Gesso and went over it with another coat. Then I found this little piece of sequin Punchnella that I received in a swap on Flickr and thought I would give that a try. I just laid it on the canvas and put a heavy coat of Gesso over it and gently lifted it off and...TA-DAH...instant texture. I used it a bit more than left the whole thing to dry overnight. Next I painted the whole surface with mint green craft paint. When that was dry, I gave a few spritzes with homemade Pearl Mist than highlighted over everything with Perfect Pearls. I really impressed myself and can't decide if I want to part with this collage or now. Also, I have invested in 20 yards of Punchinella...no more scraps for me!

Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-28065971233900934822007-09-11T23:54:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:20:05.019-07:00I finally finished my first Tussie Mussie for the Goody Swap and boy was it ever fun. Mine will go out in the mail tomorrow. I'm probably the last to mail theirs. My partner, Jenny, is late too. How, oh how, did they manage to put the two of us together...we so need Procrastinators Annonymous!! I'm anxiout to see what Jenny did.

I would like to host a swap myself...perhaps an Altoid Tin Goody Swap. They're small but fun to work with and you might be surprised at what you could include on the inside. Once I figure out how to actually do a swap, I will post it. Maybe a Christmas theme.

I'm off to my first scrapping event Friday and can't wait! I don't do much scrapping now, but I'm sure anything I learn can be used with my altered art projects. I do have some photos that I want to scrap though.Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-12489251762853383192007-07-13T13:26:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:19:41.571-07:00Sure has been quite some time since I wrote in here! I got caught up in making and trading ATC's on flickr and seem to have let a lot of other things slide. They are so much fun though!! I've listed a fewof my favorites here. Let me know what you think.
I just signed up for a Tussie Mussie Goody Swap! Never done a tussie mussie but they sure look like fun and they even come filled with goodies! I'm ALWAYS up for swapping goodies! I found this on flickr which is fast becoming my second home online! I love all the ATC's and am especially liking the Shabby Chic Decorating photos. It's inspiring me to move my "studio" across the hall and do it in a shabby style with white painted furniture and gauzy curtains. I am running out of room rapidly in my small room! It's gonna get so bad, I won't be able to get in here soon! I know my son hates it because he has to walk through it to get to the door up to his room...plus he's a neat freak!

Just got invited to a Scrapping Convention in Virginia in September. Never went to anything like that so I'm looking forward to it. I am on the Design Team for girlygirlstreasurebox.com and will be attending with one of the other Design Team members and we will be meeting the owner of Girlly Girls Treasure Box. Can't wait!! I've chatted with them and the other ladies but have never met any of them yet. Shelly, the one I will be riding with, lives about a half hour away from me...what a shock that was when I found out! You just don't expect to meet people on the net that live that close to you.

Well, not I'm off to get something listed on ebay so I can afford the Scrapping event!Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-71840866908981582912007-03-24T21:30:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:19:06.042-07:00Well, I'll be durned!! I actually did figure out how to get my ducks in a row. Maybe not ducks, but I did get my photos lined up right.Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-37801133983761396812007-03-24T21:18:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:18:40.916-07:00HA! That was supposed to be bits and bobs in my first post. Already I'm off to a great start by misspelling things! I have to remember to use "spell check." The key word there is "remember"...something I have trouble with.

Anyhow...I posted a couple of photos of a Slide Mailer I sold on eBay. Would sure be nice if I could figure out how to get the photos in order. At least they are posted. I've really been enjoying doing Slide mailers for a few months now. Mine usually come out looking vintage...like something you might find in your Grandmother's old storage trunk in the attic. I guess because I'm becoming vintage myself, most of my creations are vintage, be it tins, ATC's, Slide Mailers and anything else that finds it's way out of my brain onto my work table. I've had a couple of requests for ATC swaps which was a real surprise for me. Never thought anyone would actually request a swap with me! Well, I'm swapping and it's fun! You should try it sometime! Hope you like my mailers.Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099874903248839803.post-54499086087239675112007-03-14T08:41:00.000-07:002011-04-21T21:18:18.712-07:00First postWell...I finally succumed to the world of Blogging. I guess you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! I'm looking forward to having a place to list photos of my arty stuff that I create to keep myself sane.

I NEVER thought of myself as an artist but several people have used that description of me lately and I like the feel so......now I am an "artist" with a "studio" of my own. You should see this studio though! It's a computer room, junk room, work room and a room for all my packratish findings. Most of it ends up on my work table! The one piece of equiptment that I should have in here is a shovel...would make straightening up a lot easier I think. I eventually want to move my room accross the hall to a place with more wall space for tables. Course more tables means more flat space for my "treasures" to settle on and accumulate. And, OH, do I have treasures abounding in my studio! I even have my husband bringing things home from work for me to add to my stash. What an accomplishment THAT was! He's beginning to look at "junk" with a different eye finally. He's amazed at some of the things I use...I go around picking up bits and bots off the floor, out of drawers, off the ground and anywhere I find them. I truly am a packrat! So...Welcome to the world of Foreverpackrat!Renhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09695055550741190950noreply@blogger.com0
